INITIATION 2

Took my 15 yr old son to see bobby in cork was not impressed but came to placate his dad on arriving did not
believe it was in a big top but felt yeah this could be cool on bobs arrival he could not get over how cool one could look at 70 and it just got better and better enjoying the remakes the old makes hearing songs dad had played time and again but the thing that impressed the most was bobby and the band showin how to make music alive and real no bullshit no sentimentality play rock introduce the band and bugger off well how he rocked one of the loudest and most deliberately difficult shows to hear almost takin us back to manchester trade hall days attackin the crowd with a wall of sound and lookin like he got the kid and him and the band kickin ass and jiggin their way through the set and charlie bouncin of bobby and bobby bouncin of charlie  and a 15 yr old comin home with a different point of view

beautiful?

when blogging on the dylan site this song was described to me as beautiful by johanna well i find it hard to find beauty in what has to be one of the greatest songs of longing ever written but also a song that describes one of the greatest blights of the irish that being drink and alcohol abuse and the scar of emigration that once again has come to our shores it is at best one of the saddest songs i think known especially in the last verse as the singer comes to realise he will never again see his beloved homeland and all that there is to look forward to is his impending death and the loneliness of alcohol abuse
